Evidence-Based Physical Therapy Treatment

Shockwave Therapy

When painful conditions prove resistant to treatment, shockwave therapy can act as the breakthrough you need. Effective for achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and other musculoskeletal ailments.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pelvic floor dysfunction can harm your quality of life but our trained team of physiotherapists can help with evidence-based treatments. Postpartum physiotherapy is part of our commitment to women's health.

Acupuncture

Recent scientific studies have shown acupuncture is effective for many conditions in reducing pain. Our certified acupuncture providers are trained at some of Ontario's leading colleges and universities.

Dry Needling

The practice of dry needling is effective in freeing up the tight bands of muscle that we call "trigger points". Dry needling can relieve plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and TMJ/temperomandibular disorders of the lower jaw.

Knee Braces

A custom knee brace can accelerate your recovery plan. Our specialists will consult with you on what type of knee brace will help you get active again. We work with North America's leading manufacturers including Donjoy Knee Braces.

Manual Therapy

A cornerstone of our approach to one-on-one physical therapy - integrated manual therapy techniques can reduce pain and increase mobility for patients. Trigger point therapy, myofascial release, soft tissue release are some of the treatments you can expect.

Our Physio Clinic is Dedicated to Focused One-on-One Sessions

Our dedicated physiotherapy space is designed to be a peaceful space that promotes relaxation and healing.

The clinic is also equipped with technology solutions for pain reduction and injury rehabilitation.

But we are dedicated to one-on-one treatment.  A session with one of our physiotherapists means constant interaction while you give feedback and work on your treatment together.

You will not be left hooked up to a machine, for example a shockwave therapy session.  Our physiotherapists use technology but stay at your side.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

We have three price levels at Mimico Medical:

  • $75 for a 30 minute session
  • $100 for a 45 minute session
  • $120 for a 1 hour session

First-time patients at our clinic must undergo a full 1 hour session to begin treatment. Our physiotherapist will assess your injury history and current condition. They will also consult with you on a custom treatment plan and exercises for you to do at home.

Most physiotherapy services are not covered by OHIP. However many employers offer health plans that include a predefined amount of coverage for physiotherapy. Be sure to inquire with your employer’s insurance provider. Private insurance offered by seniors’ organizations and athletic associations may also provide coverage.

Physiotherapy treats a range of injuries and conditions that can affect your musculoskeletal system. Physical therapy will reduce pain, increase movement and prevent future injuries. Injuries to the joints – knees, ankles, shoulders – are a common area of treatment. Conditions such as plantar fasciitis and achilles tendinitis can benefit from a session with a physiotherapist, as well as diseases like osteoarthritis.

There are also mental health benefits from physio, as one of our goals is to reduce pain, especially from chronic injuries and conditions.

Often we recommend that patients wear either:

1) Shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. Often we treat injuries and conditions of the legs, arms or shoulders. Wearing shorts and an athletic style top will allow you and your physiotherapist to access the most common treatment areas.

2) Loose fitting sweatpants and a sweatshirt. This is just as suitable as shorts and a t-shirt, except for treatments that involve contact with the skin like acupuncture.

At Mimico Medical we are committed to staying within patients’ comfort zones and your physiotherapist will always work with you to create a safe and inclusive environment.

No, you do NOT need a referral from a doctor in order to book a physiotherapy session. If you have an injury or condition that is causing you pain after several weeks, or if it doesn’t feel like you’re healing properly, then get in touch with us directly to book an appointment.

Sometimes patients are referred by a doctor, but the majority of our patients are those looking for a solution to chronic pain and have contacted us themselves.

The number of physiotherapy sessions depends on the injury or condition that requires treatment. Many patients will experience a reduction in pain and increase in mobility after 1 to 3 sessions. But some may have difficult-to-treat conditions that take longer to heal. For these patients physiotherapy can become a regular monthly session – part of a routine that brings an increased quality of life and connection to one’s health.

Also, physiotherapy involves education on exercises you can do at home. Our physiotherapists will create a plan for you to take charge of your own recovery and minimize financial costs. Your commitment to your at-home exercise routine will be a major factor in your success.
